چکیده

Topography and composition of Cr-free, titanium-based pretreatment layers on hot dip galvanized steel were studied with scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry and Auger electron spectroscopy. A layer within the target coating weight range (4-10 mg Ti/m) for industrial coil coating processes contained a micro-structure with hillocks and valleys, showing significant topographical variations. A local maximum film thickness of about 50 nm was detected for a sample containing 5.0 mg Ti/m. The hillocks were composed of metal complexes and phosphates, formed as a result of rapid zinc dissolution and metal hydroxide/phosphate precipitation reactions. During the layer formation also the polymer component of the pretreatment chemical becomes embedded within the structure. The structure composed of hillocks and valleys may be highly beneficial for paint adhesion, increasing the surface contact area for primary and secondary chemical bonding. Effect of Aluminum on Microstructure and Thickness of Galvanized Layers on Low Carbon silicon-Free Steel

In hot dip galvanizing, several parameters such as chemical composition of coating bath, immersion time and surface roughness of specimens could affect microstructure and properties of coating. In this article, the effect of aluminum content, immersion time and surface roughness on structure and properties of alloy layers have been investigated. Specimens of low carbon silicon-free steel with d...

Studies on defects in galvanized coating on steel wire

Causes for deposition of defective galvanized coating (lumpy deposition of coating during hot dip galvanizing) of carbon-steel wire have been investigated. It is established that the lumpy deposition is caused due to segregation of silicon on the surface of steel wire. Due to this change in composition of the steel at surface, the regions get modified and lie in Sandelin hyper reactive zone. Th...

Bond Strength of Hot – Dip Galvanized Reinforcement (b500b) with Concrete

P. Pokorný, D. Dobiáš, M. Vokáč – Czech Technical University – Klokner Institute, Prague, Czech Republic This paper evaluates the effect of initial corrosion damage to the surface of the hot dip galvanized steel coating in fresh concrete on its final bond strength. The tests were performed on uncoated and hot-dip galvanized ribbed reinforcements. The measurement of bond stress (τm) according to...

Optimization of exposure time for hot dip galvanizing and study the effects of preflux bath additives on the microstructures of galvanized steel

The objective of this research work is to optimize the time of exposure for hot dip galvanizing of mild steel, so as to achieve such a microstructure of zinc coating that protects mild steel for long against atmospheric corrosion. In order to decide the above mentioned parameter the polished samples, one at a time, were dipped in to 500 g molten zinc at 460 to 470 oC in the crucible for a diffe...

ارزیابی متالورژیکی نقاط فاقد پوشش در ورقهای فولادی گالوانیزه گرم و تأثیر آن بر خواص ورق

In this paper, bare spot defects in hot-dip galvanized sheets were studied in terms of the microstructure and their influence on the corrosion and mechanical properties. Surface characteristics and microstructural features were examined by scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy microanalysis system. The results showed that the major cause of the bare spots was...
